This is Paolo Nutini a reasonably successful solo artist. He is a good looking male and this laid-back photo makes him seem very welcoming, but on quite a personal level - as you can see through his body language. I think the idea os a solo artist is good as it can become more of a one-on-one article, rather than being thrown amongst a band of three/four.
Friendly Fires are a band that have come into the spotlight quite alot recently with some highly rated music. I really like the look of the band, I think they look funny and quite welcoming, I also really like their styling - but that is not to everyones taste so I must not be biased by that.
Arctic Monkeys (the favourite band of my target market profile) are a very well known band that still keep to a laid back, casual outlook - which I really like. Unfortunately though the look of the four boys together seems quite intimidating. I think it would be better to just have one on their own, as I feel people will be more interested in a singular unknown person rather than four unknown people.
After discussing with my teacher, I have decided that I will use a singular male as the focus of the magazine. I have chosen to do this as I think if I have a reasonably attractive male on the front then it will appeal greatly to girls - as this is an up-and-coming magazine so they may not recognize the artist anyway, and generally girls are more drawn to a good looking male than a good looking female, (theoretically - I may be wrong).
